(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor in Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David.) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

And so it was, that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. and suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Santa - Male or Female?

<div class="text" style="text-align: center;margin-left: 10px; Hoffman wrote the famous ballet of the nutcracker, which was first performed in 1892. However, the story was considered to be too morbid for kids and thus, Alexander Dumas Pere rewrote it to infuse more optimism and happiness in it. The story is about a young girl named Clara. His doting uncle Drosselmeyer gifts her a magical and mysterious nutcracker that she always keeps by her side. One night, when she was sleeping, the evil Mouse King came and tried to take her to his kingdom.

Then, the Nutcracker Prince sprang to life and fought the Mouse King and rescued Clara. The ballet becomes even more interesting and fantasy runs wild from here. After his victory, Clara goes with the Nutcracker Prince to the land of magic and dreams. She visits the land of the dolls and that of the Snow Queen where she met snowflakes of all types. She also goes through the candy land and kids love to hear the sweets from all over the world that she met there. The beautiful flowers and the sugar plum fairy capture their imagination. It is only on the Christmas day that Clara wakes up to find herself back at home, surrounded by her family.

Marius Petipa, the first ballet master to the Tsar of Russia requested Piotr Tchaikovsky to compose the music for the ballet and he did an excellent work on it. Piotr used many different and unusual instruments such a celesta with its bell-like sound in the ballet and kept it very secret until it was first performed because he was worried that somebody might steal his idea before he could use it. The ballet became one of the most famous ballets of its time.

Ten Funny Christmas Traditions

"Wassail" comes from the Old Norse "ves heill" - to be of good health. This evolved into the tradition of visiting neighbours on Christmas Eve and drinking to their health.

A traditional Christmas dinner in early England was the head of a pig prepared with mustard.

According to a 1995 survey, 7 out of 10 British dogs get Christmas gifts from their doting owners.

During the ancient 12-day Christmas celebration, the log burned was called the "Yule log".

Sometimes a piece of the Yule log would be kept to kindle the fire the following winter, to ensure that the good luck carried on from year to year. The Yule log custom was handed down from the Druids.

During the Christmas buying season, Visa cards alone are used an average of 5,340 times every minute in the United States.

After "A Christmas Carol," Charles Dickens wrote several other Christmas stories, one each year, but none was as successful as the original.

Although many believe the Friday after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year, it is not. It is the fifth to tenth busiest day. The Friday and Saturday before Christmas are the two busiest shopping days of the year.

Charles Dickens' initial choice for Scrooge's statement "Bah Humbug" was "Bah Christmas."

Christmas trees are edible. Many parts of pines, spruces, and firs can be eaten. The needles are a good source of vitamin C. Pine nuts, or pine cones, are also a good source of nutrition.

In Britain, the Holy Days and Fasting Days Act of 1551, which has not yet been repealed, states that every citizen must attend a Christian church service on Christmas Day, and must not use any kind of vehicle to get to the service.

Funny Christmas Stories

Daisy and her thirteen-year-old sister, Mia, had been fighting a great deal during the last year. This often can happen when you combine a strong-willed two-year-old, who is sure she is always right, with a young adolescent.

Daisy's parents, trying to take advantage of her newfound interest in Santa Claus, reminded the two-year-old that Santa was watching and he was unhappy when he saw children argue and fight. This had little impact on little Mia who really didn't understand.

'I'll just have to tell Santa about your misbehaviour,' the mother said as she picked up the phone and dialed. Mia's eyes grew big as her mother asked, 'Mrs. Claus?' [it was really Daisy and Mia's aunt as Santa's real line was busy] if she could put Santa on the line.

Mia's mouth dropped even further open her mother described to Santa [Mia's uncle] how the two-year-old was acting. When her mother told Mia that Santa wanted to talk to her, she reluctantly took the phone.

Santa, speaking in a deep voice, explained to Mia how there would be no presents Christmas morning to children who fought with their sisters. He would be watching, and he expected things to be better from now on.

Mia, now even more wide eyed, solemnly nodded to each of Santa's remarks and silently hung the phone up when he was done. After a short while, the sister's mother [trying hard not to laugh at being so clever] asked Mia, 'What did Santa say to you, darling?'

In almost a whisper, Mia, sadly but matter-of-factly stated, 'Mummy, Santa said he won't be bringing any toys to Daisy this year.'

This guy goes into his dentist's office, because something is wrong with his mouth. Santa got his logbook out and made sure all his paperwork was in order. He knew they would examine all his equipment and truly put Santa's flying skills to the test.

The examiner walked slowly around the sled. He checked the reindeer harnesses, the landing gear, and even Rudolph's nose. He painstakingly reviewed Santa's weight and balance calculations for sled's enormous payload. Finally, they were ready for the check ride. Santa got in and fastened his seat belt and shoulder harness and checked the compass. DeMille. When they began working on the movie Ben Hur, DeMille talked to Charlton Heston--the star of the movie--about the all-important chariot race at the end. He decided Heston should actually learn to drive the chariot himself, rather than just using a stunt double. Heston agreed to take chariot-driving lessons to make the movie as authentic as possible.

Learning to drive a chariot with horses four abreast, however, was no small matter. After extensive work and days of practice, Heston returned to the movie set and reported to DeMille.

"I think I can drive the chariot all right, Cecil," said Heston, "but I'm not at all sure I can actually win the race."

Smiling slightly, DeMille said, "Heston, you just stay in the race, and I'll make sure you win."

The Bible tells us in 1 Cor 9:24

New International Version (©1984)
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. (KJV)

Hebrews 12

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (NIV)

The movie director knew the endgame, he knew how it would end and that the star will end. God knows your ending and if you run your race with HIM, you will win.. God knows how it will work out. Have faith and Run with God.

More Christmas Quotes

"Oh look, yet another Christmas TV special! The hike in and up to about 10,000 feet above sea level is tough. With a heavy pack on your back, at the end of the day, after hiking about 5 hours and 7 miles, it's nice to find a place to pitch a tent and set up a camp.

Hundreds of miles of trails twist their way throughout these majestic wilderness areas. The most well known trail in the area, of course, is the John Muir Trail, and we walk along it for a portion of our hike to our favorite spot.

All of these trails have one thing in common - they almost always follow the route of a river or a stream. Walking for hours and hours carrying a heavy pack generates tremendous thirst and need for water. Backpackers rarely carry water - it's just too heavy. Fortunately, there's plenty of water along the trail as year-round glaciers melt continuously.

Since the beginning of time, humankind has always had to live near productive water sources. A river, a stream, a spring, or a well provides the life-giving water that we must have. Jesus Christ, Himself, promises you through His own words that when you believe in Him, YOUR heart becomes a source of this life-giving, life-saving living water.

So, when you believe in Him, persons all around you will see you as a source of inspiration, based deeply in the infinite wellspring of Jesus Christ. This wonderful responsibility can only be borne when your spirit is submerged - totally surrounded - by the indwelling of the blessed Holy Spirit.

As the coals from our barbecue burned down, our hosts passed out marshmallows and long roasting forks.

Just then, two fire trucks roared by, sirens blaring, lights flashing. 9-10Instructed by the king, they set off. Then the star appeared again, the same star they had seen in the eastern skies. It led them on until it hovered over the place of the child. They could hardly contain themselves: They were in the right place! They had arrived at the right time!

11They entered the house and saw the child in the arms of Mary, his mother. Overcome, they kneeled and worshiped him. Then they opened their luggage and presented gifts: gold, frankincense, myrrh.

12In a dream, they were warned not to report back to Herod. So they worked out another route, left the territory without being seen, and returned to their own country.

13After the scholars were gone, God's angel showed up again in Joseph's dream and commanded, "Get up. Take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt. Stay until further notice. Herod is on the hunt for this child, and wants to kill him."

14-15Joseph obeyed. He got up, took the child and his mother under cover of darkness. They were out of town and well on their way by daylight. They lived in Egypt until Herod's death. This Egyptian exile fulfilled what Hosea had preached: "I called my son out of Egypt."

16-18Herod, when he realized that the scholars had tricked him, flew into a rage. He commanded the murder of every little boy two years old and under who lived in Bethlehem and its surrounding hills. (He determined that age from information he'd gotten from the scholars.) That's when Jeremiah's sermon was fulfilled:

A sound was heard in Ramah,
weeping and much lament.
Rachel weeping for her children,
Rachel refusing all solace,
Her children gone,
dead and buried.

19-20Later, when Herod died, God's angel appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt: "Up, take the child and his mother and return to Israel. All those out to murder the child are dead."

21-23Joseph obeyed. He got up, took the child and his mother, and reentered Israel. When he heard, though, that Archelaus had succeeded his father, Herod, as king in Judea, he was afraid to go there. But then Joseph was directed in a dream to go to the hills of Galilee. On arrival, he settled in the village of Nazareth. This move was a fulfillment of the prophetic words, "He shall be called a Nazarene."
v

Wise men

Matthew 2 (The Message)

1-2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem village, Judah territory— this was during Herod's kingship—a band of scholars arrived in Jerusalem from the East. They asked around, "Where can we find and pay homage to the newborn King of the Jews? We observed a star in the eastern sky that signaled his birth. We're on pilgrimage to worship him."

3-4When word of their inquiry got to Herod, he was terrified—and not Herod alone, but most of Jerusalem as well. Herod lost no time. He gathered all the high priests and religion scholars in the city together and asked, "Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?"

5-6They told him, "Bethlehem, Judah territory. The prophet Micah wrote it plainly:

It's you, Bethlehem, in Judah's land,
no longer bringing up the rear.
From you will come the leader
who will shepherd-rule my people, my Israel."

7-8Herod then arranged a secret meeting with the scholars from the East. Pretending to be as devout as they were, he got them to tell him exactly when the birth-announcement star appeared. Then he told them the prophecy about Bethlehem, and said, "Go find this child. Leave no stone unturned. As soon as you find him, send word and I'll join you at once in your worship."

Visit to the Temple

21When the eighth day arrived, the day of circumcision, the child was named Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived.

22-24Then when the days stipulated by Moses for purification were complete, they took him up to Jerusalem to offer him to God as commanded in God's Law: "Every male who opens the womb shall be a holy offering to God," and also to sacrifice the "pair of doves or two young pigeons" prescribed in God's Law.

25-32In Jerusalem at the time, there was a man, Simeon by name, a good man, a man who lived in the prayerful expectancy of help for Israel. And the Holy Spirit was on him. The Holy Spirit had shown him that he would see the Messiah of God before he died. Led by the Spirit, he entered the Temple. As the parents of the child Jesus brought him in to carry out the rituals of the Law, Simeon took him into his arms and blessed God:

God, you can now release your servant;
release me in peace as you promised.
With my own eyes I've seen your salvation;
it's now out in the open for everyone to see:
A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations,
and of glory for your people Israel.

33-35Jesus' father and mother were speechless with surprise at these words. Simeon went on to bless them, and said to Mary his mother,

This child marks both the failure and
the recovery of many in Israel,
A figure misunderstood and contradicted—
the pain of a sword-thrust through you—
But the rejection will force honesty,
as God reveals who they really are.

36-38Anna the prophetess was also there, a daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher. She was by now a very old woman. She had been married seven years and a widow for eighty-four. She never left the Temple area, worshiping night and day with her fastings and prayers. At the very time Simeon was praying, she showed up, broke into an anthem of praise to God, and talked about the child to all who were waiting expectantly for the freeing of Jerusalem.

39-40When they finished everything required by God in the Law, they returned to Galilee and their own town, Nazareth. There the child grew strong in body and wise in spirit. And the grace of God was on him.

There were sheepherders

Luke 2

8-12 There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God's angel stood among them and God's glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, "Don't be afraid. I'm here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David's town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you're to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger."

13-14At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God's praises:

Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.

15-18As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the sheepherders talked it over. "Let's get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us." They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the sheepherders were impressed.

19-20Mary kept all these things to herself, holding them dear, deep within herself. The sheepherders returned andlet loose, glorifying and praising God for everything they had heard and seen. This was the first census when Quirinius was governor of Syria. Everyone had to travel to his own ancestral hometown to be accounted for. So Joseph went from the Galilean town of Nazareth up to Bethlehem in Judah, David's town, for the census. As a descendant of David, he had to go there. He went with Mary, his fiancée, who was pregnant.

6-7While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. She gave birth to a son, her firstborn. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. Before they came to the marriage bed, Joseph discovered she was pregnant. (It was by the Holy Spirit, but he didn't know that.) Joseph, chagrined but noble, determined to take care of things quietly so Mary would not be disgraced.

20-23While he was trying to figure a way out, he had a dream. God's angel spoke in the dream: "Joseph, son of David, don't hesitate to get married. Mary's pregnancy is Spirit-conceived. God's Holy Spirit has made her pregnant. She will bring a son to birth, and when she does, you, Joseph, will name him Jesus—'God saves'—because he will save his people from their sins." This would bring the prophet's embryonic sermon to full term:

Watch for this—a virgin will get pregnant and bear a son;
They will name him Immanuel (Hebrew for "God is with us").

24-25Then Joseph woke up. He did exactly what God's angel commanded in the dream: He married Mary. But he did not consummate the marriage until she had the baby. He named the baby Jesus.

Christmas Cards

I decided to get my husband to address Christmas cards, as I had so much to do. Contact with H1N1
is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1
infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms
and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not
fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced
(instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any
part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe - or slap).

3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you
don't trust salt). H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the
throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms.
Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt
water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on
an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and
powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least once every day
with warm salt water. Not everybody may be good at <st2:PersonName w:st="on"><st1:GivenName w:st="on">Jala</st1:GivenName> <st1:Sn w:st="on">Neti</st1:Sn></st2:PersonName> or Sutra
Neti but blowing the nose hard at least once a day and swabbing both nostrils
with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in
bringing down viral population.

5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C
(Amla and other citrus fruits). If you have to supplement with
Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost
absorption.

6. Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can.
Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the
reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat
into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any
harm.

Let's give it up for Christian Life Center in ST CLOUD!

<st1:stockticker w:st="on">CLC</st1:stockticker> St Cloud had an amazing weekend with excellent and I mean excellent press coverage.

There were two stories, count them folks... the story was in the On line addition twice and in the Sunday Print addition! Rosenberg writes. .
.
BABYLON IS BEING REBUILT, JUST AS PROPHESIED
By Joel C. Rosenberg

Washington, D.C., June 29, 2009) -- Keep your eye on Iraq. As the
country once wracked with unimaginable violence becomes increasingly
stable and secure, direct foreign investment is going to flood in, and
the region once known as "Babylon" and "Babylonia" will become the
wealthiest country on the planet.
Exxon Mobil, the world's largest company, for example, is positioning
itself to become a major investor in the Iraqi energy sector. Other
major oil companies are doing the same. The Iraqi government in recent
months has been developing investment incentive packages to draw in such
companies. This week, in fact, such energy companies will actually begin
bidding for licenses to develop Iraq's immense but badly atrophied oil
exploration, drilling, and refining industry. Consider this morning's
headline from the Associated Press: "World's big oil companies prepare
for return to Iraq."
And this is just the beginning.
Regular readers of this weblog and my books know that Bible prophecy
says ancient Babylon, Iraq will be rebuilt and become the greatest
center of wealth, commerce and power in the "last days" of history. The
books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Revelation are explicit on this
subject. Skeptics and cynics abound, to be sure, but the fact is the
actual ancient city Babylon is being rebuilt right now, in part with
U.S. taxpayer funds. Iraqi leaders hope that eventually millions of
tourists will come to visit, and real progress is being made.
Yesterday's edition of Stars & Stripes, a U.S. military publication, had
a fascinating story headlined: "U.S., Iraqi experts developing plan to
preserve Babylon, build local tourism industry."
http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=63495
HILLAH, Iraq - The remains of what was once the greatest city in the
world
occupy a vast site on the bank of the Euphrates River.
Their roots go back 3,800 years to when the city of Babylon was the
heart of a Mesopotamian empire, and the remnants include great slabs of
stone that are said to be the remains of King Nebuchadnezzar's castle. A
giant stone lion guards one end of the fortifications, but the most
stunning remnants were removed by European archaeologists in the early
20th century.
Now soldiers with the 172nd Infantry Brigade are exploring the ruins as
part of a U.S.-Iraqi effort to preserve the ancient city and plan for
the return of Western tourists.
Members of the brigade's 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment escorted
a group of U.S. heritage tourism experts to the ruins last week for the
first of several visits to develop a preservation and tourism plan for
the area.
U.S. and coalition troops have been criticized in the past for damaging
and contaminating artifacts. In a 2006 report, the head of the British
Museum's Near East department said that, among other things, military
vehicles crushed a 2,600-year-old brick pavement, and sand and
archeological fragments were used to fill military sandbags.
Now the rapidly improving security situation in surrounding Babil
province has persuaded the U.S. State Department and the Iraqi State
Board of Antiquities and Heritage to embark on the preservation project,
dubbed the Future of Babylon Project.
The State Department and the World Monuments Fund have committed
$700,000 to the project, which will see U.S. and Iraqi experts develop a
plan to preserve the site and develop a local tourism industry, said
Diane Siebrandt, the U.S. embassy's cultural heritage officer.
The Babylon project is one of several that the State Department is
involved in to conserve ancient sites in partnership with the Iraqi
government, she said.
Two people with expertise developing tourism plans for historic sites in
third-world nations, Gina Haney and Jeff Allen, have been employed by
the State Department to run the U.S. side of the project. They visited
the ruins for the first time last weekend.
Haney said the pair will involve the local community in the plan's
development, as they did with a similar project encouraging Western
tourists to visit Ghana's Gold Coast.
"You could throw money at it and do all this work, but unless you can
create a sustainable situation, your opportunities for tourism will run
out," Allen said. "The idea is to develop something that is going to be
here 30 to 40 years from now and has benefits for the local people. We
don't want something that will only benefit outsiders."
The Iraqi government will be involved in the planning as well.
"If you have 200,000 people a year coming to this site, you will have
people staying at hotels, visiting restaurants, buying souvenirs," Allen
said. "The site is in some ways a revenue generator for the local
community."
Babylon could be comparable to the Egyptian pyramids, which draw
millions of tourists each year. But the area lacks the tourist
infrastructure that has been built at sites such as the pyramids, he
said.
"There is nothing for tourists here, but if you interpret and present it
in the right way, you can spark interest," he said.
Allen, who has experience designing walkways and signs for other
heritage sites, said detailed planning won't happen until authorities
have worked out how best to preserve the ruins. The crumbling rocks of
the original city are surrounded by more elaborate and modern
fortifications, including a maze-like collection of interior walls built
on top of genuine ruins during Saddam Hussein's time.
"Some of the past restoration work hasn't been very good," he said.
"Saddam was trying to inherit the power of the ancients and continue
that legacy. His restoration methods helped reinforce that vision of
himself, and he created a pattern of restoration and repair work that
benefited a certain agenda."
One of the 172nd soldiers who visited the ruins, 1st Lt. Bryan Kelso,
24, of Jacksonville, Fla., walked in wonder near the ancient stones.
"It's amazing to be surrounded by this history. To think that we are
standing where Alexander the Great has been," he said, referring to the
great Macedonian conqueror who died in Babylon. "Babylon is one of the
oldest and first civilizations known to man. They created the wheel and
the first calendars. Everybody coming here gets a sense of what this
place really is and how it all traces back."
