*Extra* Missions Trip update

We have an opportunity to go to the Nation of Mauritius for a short term Missions Strip. At this time it appears that we may be going there in August or September of this year (2005). My son and I are looking forward to this trip and ask that you remember us in your prayers.

For informational purposes, I am pasting in some information from the CIA World Factbook.

History: Discovered by the Portuguese in 1505, Mauritius was subsequently held by the Dutch, French, and British before independence was attained in 1968. A stable democracy with regular free elections and a positive human rights record, the country has attracted considerable foreign investment and has earned one of Africa's highest per capita incomes. Recent poor weather and declining sugar prices have slowed economic growth, leading to some protests over standards of living in the Creole community.

Climate: Tropical, modified by southeast trade winds; warm, dry winter (May to November); hot, wet, humid summer (November to May)

Population as of July, 2004: 1,220,481

Ethnic groups: Indo-Mauritian 68%, Creole 27%, Sino-Mauritian 3%, Franco-Mauritian 2%

Religions: Hindu 52%, Christian 28.3% (Roman Catholic 26%, Protestant 2.3%), Muslim 16.6%, other 3.1%

Language: English (official), Creole, French (official), Hindi, Urdu, Hakka, Bhojpuri

Industries: food processing (largely sugar milling), textiles, clothing; chemicals, metal products, transport equipment, nonelectrical machinery; tourism

United Pentecostal Church Missionary: Rev. Randall Richardson

I anyone wishes to assist financially with this missions trip, feel free to leave a comment or email me and we will contact you.

What is always needed are your prayers! Without prayer, we can do nothing!
