Continuing our study into various books and specific chapters of the bible
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Acts Chapter 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Do you hate to wait? McDonalds, the bank, the grocery store, target… standing in line FOREVER! Time dragging one and on and on and on and on and on and, well you catch my meaning.
At the Science Museum waiting to get into the Omni Theatre.. standing and standing.. waiting and waiting…..
Christmas day? Will it ever get here (if you are a kid) When will it be over (if you are an adult)
120 people waiting for 10 days in that upper room. Waiting, waiting, waiting for the promise.
Did they sing?
Did they have a bible study?
Did they have a pot luck?
We know from Chapter one that they had a business meeting! But don't you ever wonder just what went on?
I imagine that they had a lot of prayer and testimony times. Telling stories about Jesus, and perhaps Mary recounted the stories around the birth of John the baptist and Jesus.
Perhaps Matthew was working on this book already and he talked to mary about it Maybe Mary told about the marriage in Cana?
Perhaps among the 120 there was a Rabbi who read to them from the Prophets…
But wait they did……
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together and were confounded, because every man heard them speaking in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, "Behold, are not all these who speak Galileans?
8 And how then do we each hear them speaking in our own tongue wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretans and Arabians -- we hear them speak in our own tongues the wonderful works of God."
12 And they were all amazed and were in doubt, saying one to another, "What meaneth this?"
13 Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."
Some strange and different happened.
