Acts 5 Part 6

27. And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28. Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

I believe that the main problem was that these priests authority was being challanged. It was simply an ego thing.

Look at that statement

Did not WE command you?
Didn't we order you no to teach in this name?

The priests are really starting to look less like leaders but more like people afraid that they'd lose their status.

29. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Peter having had enough decided it was time to stand up to these guys and put back in their face.

1.) We should obey God not man
2.) You killed Jesus
3.) Through Jesus we have repentance and forgiveness of sin
4.) We witnessed this stuff
5.) God has given us his Holy Spirit because we obeyed him.

We are not going to obey you, you killed Jesus and we are witnesses of that.

Not only did he challange their authority, he called them what they were and they did not like it...
