Close enough to see; too far to believe" (Part three)

Every indication is that Caiaphas made up his mind before he heard the evidence. Why would he do such a thing? Why would he turn against the Son of God, Jesus Christ, without giving him a fair hearing?

Perhaps he was afraid of losing his job. Maybe he felt he was losing control. It could be that he just could not imagine God doing anything so very good.

It could be that he liked the way things were and was frightened by change. Maybe he was just a stubborn person who jumped to conclusions and insisted that he was always right.

Whatever his reason, Caiaphas made an awful mistake. He judged wrong. He was close enough to Jesus to touch him. He could have talked to God-in-human-skin and asked him anything. He could have fallen on his knees and worshipped. Instead, he never believed. He never even considered the possibility.

You know, that could have been any of us. People can be stubborn.

I can make up my mind before I hear the facts.

We can be so set in our ways that we can miss out on God Himself.

Let's all decide not to be like Caiaphas. Let's decide to hear what Jesus has to say. Let's keep our hearts and minds open to the supernatural possibilities. Let's at least try to believe.
