Whenever I read a Bible story, I wonder which character I would be if I had been there. What about you?
Who are you most like?
Are you like Caiaphas?
- Have you made up your mind against Jesus and decided to reject him no matter what?
- Is there no point in Jesus even answering your questions because your mind is closed?
I hope not. At least listen and give Jesus an open mind and a fair hearing. Consider his claims and remain open to his invitation to eternal life.
Are you like Pilate?
You really are inclined toward Jesus but it just wouldn't work in your house, with your friends, in your family or school or business. Please reconsider-don't miss out on the transforming wonder of Jesus just because of someone's elses's personal or political pressure.
Are you like the centurion?
You're halfway. You don't disbelieve. You're kind of attracted to Jesus but unsure what to do next. I invite you to go the second half. God all the way. Believe. Commit. Become a Christian.
Maybe you say that you are none of the above.
Perhaps you used to be like one of them but that was before. Now you are a true believer. Jesus' death is more than a fact of history, it is the transforming faith of your life. You know that Jesus is your Savior from sin. You've committed your entire life to him.
Good for you! When we go beyond the Bible to the other pages of first century history we find further reports-at least about Pilate and the centurion.
While Caiaphas' record has been lost and he probably never believed, the ancient traditions says that both Pilate and the centurion became Christians. In fact, the Coptic Church of Africa claims Pilate as a saint. Imagine-St. Pilate. While another ancient tradition says the Pilate went mad and kept washing his hands.
Make the best choice. Choose for Jesus. Be a believer!
