The word of God encourages us to do that which is right in the sight of the Lord. In fact, quite often the bible makes a point to tell us which King did that which was right in the sight of the Lord.

Why?

Because its the right thing to do.

Why?

(man you ask a lot of whys)

Deut 6:18. And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers.

You see, when you do the right thing, the Lord will bless you.
