37. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
There comes a time in our spiritual walk where we know that we must make a change in our life. A time when we must (for the lack of a better word) make a decision for or against Christ. Its a time where we are face to face with the fact that if we were to die THIS INSTANT, we would not make it to the Kingdom of God. These people at that stage of their life, that ''line drawn in the sand''. They knew that something must be done, but what? How do I become saved? What shall we do?
Its more than '' believe'' because the Devils believe in Jesus.
Its more than accept him as your savior, because frankly that means very little. If a man is elected office that I didn't vote for, I must accept him as my Mayor or sentator, but that doesn't mean I changed my political views.
You see as Peter told them, you must repent of your sins which is more than ''I am sorry, forgive me''. Repentance means to change your 'views and actions'' to turn your life around and be a new creature.
38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
42. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
44. And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45. And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47. Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Peter told them to repent which fufills Luke 24: 47. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48. And ye are witnesses of these things.
49. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Jesus told them that Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name!
Where? Starting at Jerusalem.
Where were they preaching this? Jerusalem!
Peter preached repentance and remission of sins just like Jesus told them to. He told them to repent (Repentance) and be baptized in the Name of Jesus (his name) for the Remission of sins and you shall receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost (the promise of the Father)
He further said it was a promise for, your family and anyone else, no matter who God called. Over 3,000 people were added to the church that day and they continued to study the word of God and revival spread.
