Light is also important to our emotional well-being.
As you know, winter is a hard season for us in Minnesota, not so much because of the cold (call me crazy!), but because of the lack of sunshine, light. It doesn't help that winter unofficially begins in November, which is statistically our grayest month of the year. Because of our long winters some of us even experience a level of emotional depression due to lack of sunlight. So our doctors prescribe trips to warm, sunny, climates!A few of winters ago a Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) company actually chartered a jet and filled it with employees and all they did was fly above the gray clouds for a couple of hours so they could see the sun. As wacky as the idea was, I was told that the stunt really boosted morale and performance within the company. It emphasizes how much we need light to live and light to grow.
We need to get that power source in us and reflect that light into the world and direct people to the house of God, just like airports use lights to guide planes in at night
It's our job as the church to use the light that we reflect and the power source within us to guide people in to this place of safety and hope.
Rev. T F Tenney said that we are on the mountain of truth; our job is to hold the light up so that the lost souls could climb the mountain. Don't throw rocks at them and knock them off if they aren't climbing exactly as we think they should. When they stumble, lift that light higher and shine it along the correct path that they need to climb.
Today, Christians: we need to be a light bearer to the world. We need to leave the light on for them.
